Mrs. Amy Norvell

Hello and Welcome to Pre-K 3 (ECSE)! There's lots of fun-filled learning happening here!

About me

This is my first year at James Street Elementary and I am so excited to be here. I started teaching in 2014. Before that, I was a para professional and a substitute. I have worked primarily with Special Education students ranging from Pre-K to 8th grade.

I have 4 children of my own. I also have a lot of pets- a dog, 5 cats, 2 axolotls, and some fish. Outside of work, I like to spend time with my family or working in my sad attempt at a vegetable garden. I haven't quite gotten the hang of gardening yet.

I believe that play is crucial to early childhood development. Children do some of their best thinking while playing and doing hands-on activities that engage the whole child. Play encourages literacy, increases neural connections, enhances vocabulary, inspires creativity/curiosity, and promotes problem solving.

"Play = deep thinking = rigor" for preschoolers.- Vanessa Levin (Educator, Author, Speaker)

Class Para Professionals

We will have Mrs. Mitcheltree and Ms. Foster assisting in our room this year.  They are very excited to be part of the Pre-K3 class as well.
