From the desk of COCISD Superintendent Dr. Leland R. Moore
Welcome back! As we begin this new school year, we are excited about the changes happening around the district and the opportunities they create for our students, staff and community. Most notably, and most importantly, we are happy to report that academic scores are on the rise.
Bond construction projects have made great progress – some have been completed and many are scheduled for completion by the end of the fall semester. At the elementary campuses, the new Pre-K wing with four classrooms and clinic facilities is finished and will be ready for the first day of school. The new bus loop opened last spring, which immediately made a noticeable improvement in traffic flow. CIS has undergone science lab renovations, and upgraded playground equipment will be installed in the near future.
Lincoln Junior High’s new science wing should be ready for the first day of school, and the state-of-the-art LJH Band Hall will be complete by late fall. The band hall is a stunning facility with a cutting-edge design that will serve our community for years to come. The athletics dressing room facilities are also set for completion by later this fall.
Coldspring-Oakhurst High School’s Animal Science Project Facility is under construction, as well as the weight room expansion and the band hall extension, which are set for completion by late fall. The biggest project at the high school is the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Facility and new single-point entry. The concrete slab has been poured and framing has gone up. This construction will take about a year to complete.
Additional district improvements include a new fire and intercom system that will be operational by the start of this school year.
Thanks to you and other patrons of our district, this progress has been made possible. We are especially proud of the new vocational buildings because of the opportunities they provide for our students, as each curriculum taught will be tied to industry-recognized certifications. But most of all, we are excited for the real reason we all come to work each day – the academic improvement of our students.
It’s a great day to be a Trojan!
