What is an endorsement?

The State of Texas offers 5 Endorsements at the high school level:

  • Business & Industry
  • Public Service
  • Arts & Humanities
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math)
  • Multi-disciplinary

To earn an endorsement, students must earn 4 credits within the selected endorsement title.  The credits consist of related courses that are grouped together by interest, skill set or discipline.  The aligned courses provide students with in-depth knowledge of a specific subject area.  At the end of 8th grade, students will select an endorsement that aligns with their interest and post-secondary goals.

What is a Program of Study?

A program of study is a series of specific Career & Technical courses within a career skillset.  The Perkins V describes a program of study as a coordinated, nonduplicative sequence of academic and technical content coursework at the secondary and post-secondary level that:

  • Incorporates challenging state academic standards
  • Addresses academic, technical, and employability skills
  • Aligns with the needs of industries in the state, regional, and/or local economy
  • Progresses in specificity, beginning with all aspects of industry and leading to more occupation
specific skills. It is a series of courses at Level 1, 2, 3 and 4.
  • Has multiple entry and exit points that incorporate credentialing
  • Culminates in the attainment of a recognized postsecondary credential
