Leaves & Absences

COCISD offers employees paid and unpaid leave in time of personal need. Following is a brief overview of the basic types of leave available. For more detailed information, please refer to the Employee Handbook and/or District Policy.
Paid Leave
All COCISD employees are entitled to five"State Personal" paid leave days and two "Local" paid leave days, from the beginning of their calendar work-year. Leave is cumulative and rolls over each year. In the event that an employee leaves the district, their accumulated state leave may be transferred to the new district, but local leave is non-transferable. If an employee leaves the district before the end of their calendar work-year, absences will be pro-rated according to the number of days worked.  
Long-term Absences
Employees who need to be absent long-term (more than five days) may qualify for unpaid leave protection through the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or temporary disability leave. Employees who have personal needs that will require long leaves of absence should call the COCISD business office for counseling about leave options, continuation of benefits and communicating with the district.
