3rd Annual Golden Trojans Reception & Fall Sports Preview

3rd Annual Golden Trojans Reception & Fall Sports Preview

The 3rd Annual Golden Trojans Reception and Fall Sports Preview was held at the Jones Educational Complex on Friday, September 7. The COCISD community's seniors were welcomed with performances by the Trojan Regiment Band, cheerleaders, and the Trojanettes drill team. The AFJROTC Color Guard presented the Colors for the pledges, and the National Anthem was played by the Trojan Regiment Band. Athletic Director & Head Football Coach Jim Bird introduced Head Volleyball Coach Stacie Stewart, and discussed his background, coaching philosophy, and the upcoming 2018 sports season before fielding questions from the audience.

Coldspring's new athletic director grew up in a small community in East Texas where his father was a coach and his mother was a special education teacher. Bird said he and his wife decided to come to Coldspring to get back to East Texas and raise their children in the same childhood environment he had enjoyed. He said he was humbled and grateful to be here and thanked the group for supporting the district's athletics program.

"When you talk about small-town athletics, every group has its role," said Bird. "Our students have their part, but our senior citizens serve as the backbone. Our students need your support and your leadership."
