COVID-19 Protocols

  • Health & Safety Guidelines

The safety of students, teachers, and staff is the District’s foremost priority. COCISD is committed to working with local health departments and physicians to receive information and implement safety protocols to slow the spread of diseases and support and protect students and staff.

COVID-19 has impacted everyone in some way, some more severely than others. As we return to face-to-face instruction during the pandemic, COCISD’s goal is to work together to mitigate the risk of disease transmission and keep all school stakeholders informed of all health and safety protocols that will be in place. We want staff and students to know that their physical and mental/emotional health is our top priority.

During the 2021-22 school year we will continue education to ensure a safe and healthy learning and working environment, advocate hand washing/sanitizing, social distancing as much as possible, continue established cleaning protocols, and regularly review CDC and local health authority guidance.

We have learned a lot about the virus in the last year by analyzing data and working with our local health authorities. COCISD will continue to work with the local health authorities and adjust our health & safety protocols as the need arises.

    Health Screening

Health screening is important in supporting safety and physical health when accessing district facilities. In support of this effort, COCISD has provided staff and families information on how to screen for COVID- 19 symptoms each day before reporting to work or face-to-face instruction.

    Students

Parents or guardians shall screen their child(ren) for COVID-19 symptoms before allowing them to report to campus each day. The self-screening includes taking their child’s temperature and checking for symptoms that could be COVID-19.

    Symptomatic or positive for COVID-19

In accordance with TEA Public Health Guidance and this Dept. of State Health Services (DSHS) rule, school systems must exclude students from attending school in person who are actively sick with COVID-19, who are suspected of being actively sick with COVID-19, or who have received a positive test result for COVID-19.

Parents must ensure they do not send a child to school on campus if the child has COVID-19 symptoms or is test-confirmed with COVID-19, and they must notify the campus clinic as soon as possible at 936-653-1150, or email nurse@cocisd.org. Students may not return to campus until the conditions for re-entry are met.

    Close Contact

As a reference, close contact determinations are generally based on guidance outlined by the CDC. Based on TEA guidelines, parents/guardians may choose to quarantine their child(ren) if they have been a close contact, for the CDC-recommended amount of time.

If the choice is made to quarantine, the campus attendance clerk must be notified via email or phone call as soon as possible.

    Staff

Each day, every COCISD staff member is required to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms before reporting to any district facility. The self-screening includes staff members taking their temperature and checking for symptoms that could be COVID-19 related.

If a staff member has COVID-19 symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19, he or she must not report to work but should contact their supervisor and enter the absence into WillSub. If they have received a positive test, they must also notify the Health Services Department at 936-653-1150 or email nurse@cocisd.org.

Similar to students, school systems must exclude staff from attending school/work in person who are actively sick with COVID-19, who are suspected of being actively sick with COVID-19, or who have received a positive test result for COVID-19. Staff may return to work when the re-entry conditions have been met.

    Close Contact

For staff members who are not fully vaccinated who meet the close contact threshold with a COVID-19 positive individual, it is recommended that the staff member remain off-campus during the stay-at-home period.

For staff who meet the close contact threshold with a COVID-19 positive individual, if these staff continue to work on campus, rapid testing must be performed at the start of the day, at least once every other day until the end of day 10.
