Superintendent's Message

On behalf of the Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD faculty and staff, I am happy to welcome you to the 2017-18 school year.

The vision for our district is Creating Opportunities for All, and it is a goal we take to heart. Improvements in the 2016-17 student test scores reflect that we are headed in the right direction, and we have implemented changes this year that will continue to steer us toward that goal.

In order to create a positive learning environment for all of our students, discipline will be a major focus. Changes to the Student Code of Conduct include a no visibility cell-phone policy, and a new random drug-testing policy for 9-12 graders who apply for parking permits or participate in school-sponsored extra-curricular activities. Additionally, we have added a director of truancy and student success in order to improve student attendance and to create opportunities to help students make good choices.

Also this year, the COCISD Board of Trustees has called for a Bond Election. This decision was made after careful consideration and was based on assessments obtained through facilities inspections, Career & Technology Education (CTE) and curriculum experts’ evaluations, and district-wide surveys. We will be speaking throughout the district in the months of September and October to address questions and receive input from the community on the Bond issue. We are looking forward to these discussions and welcome your insights. Meeting dates and other information on the Bond will be posted on the district website at www.cocisd.org.

The student handbooks and code of conduct are located on our district website at www.cocisd.org > Resources > for Parents. If you have any questions about the rules and expectations, please feel free to contact your child’s campus principal. It is very important that you and your child are fully informed regarding standards related to appropriate behavior for a safe and productive school year. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, students need support both at home and at school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education.

Thank you for your support. It’s a great day to be a Trojan!

Sincerely,

Dr. Leland Moore

Superintendent
